At Family Jiu Jitsu Karate, the word family is more than just part of our name—it’s at the heart of everything we do. That’s why we are honored to share our deep-rooted connection with Ohana Academy, a relationship built on decades of loyalty, mentorship, and shared purpose.

This journey began when Professor Jason Yerrington first stepped onto the mats at eight years old under the guidance of Jeff Bonugli, training Karate with him as his first instructor. It was here that Jason began developing the discipline and martial spirit that would guide him through life.

Years later, their paths crossed again in a remarkable role reversal. Seeking new challenges, Jeff Bonugli began his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey as a white belt under Professor Jason Yerrington, the same student he once mentored. Through years of dedication, Jason would eventually award Jeff his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu—an incredible full-circle moment honoring hard work and mutual respect.

Recently, this relationship has come full circle once more. Family Jiu Jitsu Karate is now proudly an official affiliate of the Ohana family of academies. “Ohana” means “family,” and this partnership is exactly that—a family built on trust, shared values, and a commitment to serving our community with excellence in martial arts.

Together, Family Jiu Jitsu Karate and Ohana Academy stand united in a mission to build strong students, strong families, and a strong community through the arts of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Karate. This partnership honors the past while shaping the future, ensuring that each student who steps onto our mats becomes part of a lineage of hard work, character, and a never-quit spirit.
